“The best way out is always through,” penned Robert Frost. While noting we have remarkable capacities to cope, strive, and even thrive through challenges, there are many times in life we all find ourselves coming up short. It is in these times, we could all benefit seeking support from others. I have been helping people per aspera, or through difficulty, in a therapeutic capacity for over 7 years. I am curious by nature about people’s unique strengths and struggles and enjoy the process of developing strategies for working through difficulty.
I am a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) with a Masters in Social Work from the University of Kansas. I am well versed in various evidence-based practices that could be utilized given the presenting problem, including: cognitive behavioral therapy, systematic desensitization/exposure therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, unified protocol, motivational interviewing, solution focused brief therapy, and cognitive processing therapy.
While I am rooted in these approaches, I also seek to be transparent and share models through which we can understand and make sense of the complexity of our experiences. While many of the themes you are experiencing are shared by many, so many of the experiences are stories all your own, and as such, I believe the way you will get through difficulties is by going through them in a manner all your own.
